Job Description:

Come and join a growing organization! We are looking for a skilled machine operator with Sheet metal equipment experience. This position operates a variety of multiple conventional, production machines and/or equipment at specified machining centers to cut and form sheet metal components (includes brake presses, laser cutting and bending equipment). This individual will be expected to perform minor set-up and adjustment functions on these machines.

Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday  (weekends off) 6:00AM - 4:00PM

Primary duties and responsibilities:
* Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
* Interprets blueprints, drawings, manuals, routing sheet specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
* Remove and replace dull cutting tools.
* Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and work pieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
* Listen to machines during operation in order to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems.
* Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if machines malfunction.
* Stop machines to remove finished work pieces, or to change tooling, setup, or work piece placement, according to required machining sequences. Follow proper safety procedures to operate machinery.
* Lift work pieces to machines manually, or with the assistance of a lifting mechanism to load and unload machinery.
* Measures, marks and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
* Calculate machine speed and feed ratios, and the size and position of cuts.
* Selects aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on multiple sheet metal fabrication equipment and machines.
* Starts and observes machine operation to detect out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls as required.
* Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications.
* Operates pallet jack to relocate finished components to another production area.
* Repairs and reworks faulty products as needed
* Keeps work area and equipment free of debris
* Records and submits accurate work time and job functions on daily time documents and routing sheets


Secondary Responsibilities:
Miscellaneous other duties may be assigned to staff by superintendent or team leader including duties in other departments

Cross Training: Due to the nature of manufacturing and the Spectrum Industries line of products, in order to achieve optimum efficiency and utilization of equipment, space and personnel, it is necessary at times for employees to be trained and work as a ‘fill-in’ in other production and/or support areas.

Contact Responsibilities:
Requires routine contact and cooperation within immediate department with co-workers and supervisors on a regular basis. Transfer of or access to information and data may be confidential in nature.

Education and/ or experience
High School Diploma or GED and six months to one year related on-the-job training or an equivalent combination or education and experience.


Language Skills
Ability to read, interpret, comprehend and follow instructions both verbally and written. Ability to understand and apply documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees within the organization.


Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, percentages, and decimals. Ability to accurately comprehend, interpret and apply measuring device readings. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Able to use good judgment in determining best methods, acceptable quality levels, production priorities, and good and safe equipment procedures.

Complexity- Requires the ability to perform semi-routine, repetitive or generally standardized duties understand and follow instructions or general procedures of usually standardized work. Follow regular safety and quality procedures. Work is regularly checked. Attention to detail is critical. Responsible for own work.

Physical demands - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand on a hard surface and use hands and arms to move and lift products, use fingers and hands to operate levers, handles and/or button controls. The employee frequently is required to bend and twist while loading and unloading machines or carts. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stoop or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move products and parts up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up 70 pounds(with assistance). Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Job Conditions:
Working conditions - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, metal shavings, and vibrations associated with machine operation. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud while equipment is running. Location temperature may be affected by seasonal factors.
Safety Factors - Safety sensitive work area, safety shoes and protective eye wear and gloves required, other safety equipment and gear may be required as needed. Production dress code applies.
